JIC HavurahFOR A SCHEDULE OF HAVURAH SERVICES & PROGRAMS "CLICK" HEREThe JEWISH INFORMATION CENTER OF HOUSTON announces a unique synagogue experience: The JIC HAVURAH. The word Havurah is Hebrew for fellowship. We form a Havurah because something is lacking in our Jewish lives. Perhaps we lack intensity in Jewish study, or Jewish prayer, or Jewish celebration. If our desire to fill the void is great enough, we become willing to expend some energy to find others who have a similar desire, and a Havurah is formed. In response to the above needs, the Jewish Information Center has created the JIC Havurah. Like the synagogue model, the JIC Havurah is a place for prayer and study. Unlike the synagogue model, we have no Sisterhood, Men's Club, Religious School, Board of Directors, or cumbersome committee structure. What we have is a vibrant, diverse, participatory non-Orthodox Jewish community steeped in Jewish values, and promoting spirituality and learning. We conduct weekly Shabbat morning services (9:30-11:30 AM) at the Merfish Center (9000 South Rice). Havurah members can also avail themselves of a list of challenging adult learning opportunities geared to their particular interest. While prayer and learning are the centerpieces of the JIC Havurah,the Havurah and Rabbi Howard Siegel are also available (at no cost) to all members for life cycle events and ritual/religious needs. Membership in the JIC Havurah is open to all Jews, Interfaith families, and non-Jews interested in pursuing Judaism. To become a member, we ask you to: 2) A pledge contribution, in an amount you feel comfortable with, to the JIC Havurah. The JIC Havurah is a simple and cost-effective way for one to affiliate with the community. We do not charge dues, nor do we scrutinize the financial status of members.
